PROJECT

Twin Cities Orthopedics Waconia is a 21,000 sf medical office building that offers a comprehensive range of services all under one roof. Services such as physical therapy, hand therapy, pelvic health therapy, MRI imaging, prosthetics & orthotics, and a sports performance program provided by Training Haus. Alongside those services, the building features a rehabilitation pool, weight lifting area, state-of-the-art physical conditioning and recovery technology, team training facilities, and a nutrition booth. Whether urgent care is needed, or simply ongoing therapy, the skilled team at TCO Waconia is ready to provide the expert support that they are well known for.

PROCESS

As time has passed and the close partnership between SRa and TCO has grown, the hardline focus of SRa on providing high-quality facilities that meet the functional and design requirements of the organization has not changed. Everything from the sports performance wing, which is comprised of large glazing members to allow light to enter the space, to the physical therapy treatment rooms, has been given immense thought and consideration throughout the design process. This translates to the exterior as well as the smooth precast concrete and metal paneling compliment the thin brick that makes up a large portion of the façade. Windows of varying sizes create a dynamic building personality while allowing interior spaces to be well connected to the exterior environment. This is all tied together with the unique blend between the rectilinear design elements and the large, vaulted roof over the sports performance wing which define a distinctive building character like no other.

RESULT

Providing TCO with a new facility in Waconia that caters to their specific needs was a great honor for SRa. This was helped to be made possible with the work done by RJM Construction. This all has come together to give TCO the capability to provide the amazing physical therapy and urgent care services to the city of Waconia and surrounding areas. With the new facility plus a new expansion to the building, the orthopedic needs of the communities around can be effectively served.

Jocelyne Dougan

Project Coordinator

During Jocelyne’s formative years she spent a lot of time with her grandmother painting, drawing, and making all sorts of crafts. As a child she watchedher dad, helpingwhere she could, renovatetheir home from the ground up. Theylivedin a constant cycle of demolishing and rebuilding,to make something new andbeautiful. As a teenager she began taking advanced art classes and making pottery whenever she had free time between classes and after school. Looking at Jocelyne’s childhood, architecture seemed like an obvious choice, but it was not so clear when Jocelyne entered college. She began her post-secondary education studying accounting due to her interests in business throughout high school. However, she quickly realized that creativity was a necessity for her future career. Jocelyne changed her major to architecture and transferred to the University of Minnesota. It was there thatshe grew her knowledge of architecture as well as, interior design, history, and art. In 2018 she graduated with her Bachelor of Design in Architecture and began working at a firm in Saint Paul, gaining experience in both government and educational design. She soon returned to the University of Minnesota to complete her Master of Architecture degree with the hopes of pursuing licensure. Now that Jocelyne has completed her master’s degree, her professional goals aim to experience as many opportunities as possible both for the sake of learning as well as the need to feed her inner child’s love of art and exploration. Jocelynehopes to apply a wide range of knowledge and skills to better inform an all-encompassing design practice.
